Top Gun: Maveric has crossed yet another box office milestone.
The Tom Cruise flick has become only the third Hollywood movie of the pandemic era to cross the $900 million mark at the worldwide box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The sequel crossed the milestone on Monday (June 20) after rounding the day out with a US total of $474.8 million and $427.1 million overseas. Its global earnings currently stand at a whopping $901.9 million and is Cruise’s biggest ever box office earner.

Cruise’s 2018 blockbuster Mission: Impossible—Fallout previously held that honour, having earned $791 million globally.
But it’s not only a hit for Cruise. The film has become Paramount’s highest-grossing original release at the US box office behind titanic.
maverick join Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which have earned $950 million and $1.9 billion worldwide, respectively.

Following on from the first Top Gun film, maverick sees Cruise reprising his role as Lieutenant Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, a Navy aviator tasked with leading a new squad of fighter pilots. Miles Teller has joined the cast too, playing Lieutenant Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s previous partner, Goose.
Original Top Gun star Val Kilmer also recently addressed his emotional surprise appearance in the sequel. Kilmer had previously starred alongside Cruise as Iceman, aka Tom Kazansky.
“I was very moved the first time I saw it,” he told USA Today. “Almost 40 years is a long time for a reunion. We laughed all day. Tom is great and surprisingly funny!”
Top Gun: Maverick is now playing in UK and US cinemas.
